A new tournament and a new format bring together a host of unknowns but we are able to pick out a few teams who look to have the strongest squads. Northern Chargers, Oval Invincibles, and Manchester Originals stand out at this stage.
Northern Superchargers have the shortest odds and for good reason with Aaron Finch and Ben Stokes in their squad as well as a host of England internationals. They can be backed at 8.50 with 1xbet and 5.00 with Betway.
Oval Invincibles have a strong contingent of home grown players all who play their cricket at The Oval. Jason Roy will show off his trademark big-hitting at the top of the order, with Sunil Narine and Sandeep Lamichhane providing top level spinning options.
Invincibles are favourites with some of the bookies and can be backed at 6.50 to win the tournament with 1xbet and 7.00 with Betway.
Manchester Originals are next on the list at 7.00 with 1xbet and 8.00 with Betway. They have Jos Buttler and Nicolas Pooran with the bat and exciting bowlers in Kagiso Rabada, Matt Parkinson and Jamie Overton.
We expect Northern Chargers, Oval Invincibles and Manchester Originals to provide great entertainment and all three to be in the mix for The Hundred trophy.

Captain: Moeen Ali
Overseas Players: Adam Zampa, Shaheen Afridi, Kane Williamson,
Other Key Players: Chris Woakes, Pat Brown, Liam Livingstone
Coach: Andrew Macdonald
Home Ground: Edgbaston
Birmingham Phoenix will aim to bring the new format to life via the star quality of Shaheen Afridi with the ball and captain Moeen Ali as all-rounder. Kane Williamson will already be a familiar face in England after leading New Zealand in the Test Series and the World Test Championship earlier in the summer.
Williamson and Ali will be supported in the batting by England Test opener Dom Sibley who will be keen to show he has a lot more to his game than long traditional Test match innings. Liam Livingstone and Daniel Bell-Drummond will also provide fireworks whenever they come to the crease.
Local all-rounder Chris Woakes enjoyed a strong start to this year’s IPL and has been a mainstay in England’s white ball teams since 2015. We expect Adam Zampa to shine in this format after he has produced excellent performances in T20 cricket for Australia and in the Big Bash over recent years. Pat Brown will also be watched closely after missing out for England in T20 cricket through injury over the last 12 months.
Andrew Macdonald is a well respected short-form coach after stints with Royal Challengers Banagalore, Rajasthan Royals, Leicestershire, Victoria and Northern Superchargers as well as with the Australian national side.

Birmingham Phoenix are 7.00 to win The Hundred with 1xbet. Betway are also offering 8.00 on the Strikers to win The Hundred.
Captain: Eoin Morgan
Overseas Players: Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Nabi, Glenn Maxwell
Other Key Players: Zak Crawley, Dan Lawrence, Mark Wood
Coach: Shane Warne
Home Ground: Lord’s
London Spirit will bring the Hundred to the most traditional of English cricket venues, Lord’s. The venue will be very familiar to England captain and Middlesex batsman Eoin Morgan, as well as to former Ashes star, coach Shane Warne.
Alongside Morgan, London Spirit have plenty of explosive batsmen in their ranks. Young England Test players Zak Crawley and Dan Lawrence will be alongside former England internationals Joe Denly and Ravi Bopara. However, the most box-office of them all will be Australian Glenn Maxwell who had been enjoying his best IPL earlier this year.
There will be plenty of pace in the bowling stocks with England’s Mark Wood lining up alongside Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir. If this format lends itself to spin bowling, Mason Crane and Mohammad Nabi will be called upon, with Shane Warne ready to lend his advice from the dugout.
Shane Warne may well have been the scourge of English cricket during the 1990s and 2000s but his knowledge of the game is well thought of. He has previously coached Rajasthan Royals and will bring an energy and media profile that few can match.
Zak Crawley, Dan Lawrence, Eoin Morgan (c) , Mohammad Amir, Jade Dernbach, Mohammad Nabi, Luis Reece, Adam Rossington, Mason Crane, Joe Denly, Glenn Maxwell, Roelof Van Der Merwe, Mark Wood, Ravi Bopara, Chris Wood
London Spirit can be backed at 7.50 to win the 2020 The Hundred with 1xbet and at 6.00 with Betway.
Captain: Jos Butler
Overseas Players: Nicholas Pooran, Kagiso Rabada, Shadab Khan
Other Key Players: Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Jamie Overton
Coach: Simon Katich
Home Ground: Old Trafford
Manchester Originals are still yet to announce their captain but have a host of top drawer players to choose from. In Jos Buttler and Nicholas Pooran they have two of the most destructive batsmen in short form cricket.
Alongside Buttler and Pooran, Manchester Originals will also have big hitters in the shape of Phil Salt and Joe Clarke to call upon.
With the ball, the team have an excellent mix of pace and spin options. Kagiso Rabada, the winner of the 2020 IPL Purple Cap will be joined by fast bowlers Steven Finn and Jamie Overton. Spin bowlers Matt Parkinson and Shadab Khan will provide an excellent standard of leg breaks.
Unspectacular as a player in Ashes Tests in this country, Simon Katich has carved out a successful coaching career in the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Jos Buttler, Joe Clarke, Phil Salt, Wayne Madsen, Matt Parkinson, Nicholas Pooran, Kagiso Rabada, Harry Gurney, Shadab Khan, Jamie Overton, Tom Lammonby, Steven Finn, Colin Ackermann, Richard Gleeson, Tom Hartley
Manchester Originals are 7.00 to win The Hundred with 1xbet. They are 8.00 to win with Betway.
Captain: Faf Du Plessis
Overseas Players: Faf Du Plessis, Chris Lynn, Mujeeb ur Rahman
Other Key Players: Ben Stokes, Adil Rashid, David Willey
Coach: Darren Lehmann
Northern Superchargers have announced Faf Du Plessis to lead their team in the tournament. He will be cheered on by the partisan supporters of the north east of England.
Du Plessis and Stokes will not only be leaders of the side but may well open the batting as well. Australian Chris Lynn is another option at the top of the order for a side who won’t be lacking big hitters.
With the ball they have plenty of top level operators. England internationals Adil Rashid, David Willey and Olly Stone are joined by Mujeeb ur Rahman and Callum Parkinson.
Former Ashes player and coach Darren Lehmann will coach the side in familiar surroundings after spending 11 seasons playing for Yorkshire at Headingley. He has rebuilt his reputation after ‘sandpaper gate’ by coaching Brisbane Heat in the BBL.
Ben Stokes, Adil Rashid, David Willey, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Adam Lyth, Aaron Finch, Brydon Carse, Chris Lynn, John Simpson, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Olly Stone, Matthew Potts, Matthew Fisher, Harry Brook, Callum Parkinson
Northern Superchargers are 5.00 to win The Hundred with Betway. They are 8.50 outsiders with 1xbet.
Captain: Sam Curran
Overseas Players: Sunil Narine, Sandeep Lamichhane, Colin Ingram
Other Key Players: Sam Curran, Reece Topley, Jason Roy
Coach: Tom Moody
Ground: The Oval
The Oval Invincibles are yet to name their captain but will surely pick one of their Surrey players within the squad. T20 games at The Oval always have a raucous reputation and evenings under the lights during The Hundred should be equally spectacular.
There is no shortage of batting talent for this side with Jason Roy, Laurie Evans and Sam Billings the standout names. Rory Burns will be keen to show his ability to play a different type of innings from his typically slow Test knocks.
Bowling wise they have every base covered with left-arm pace from Reece Topley, left-arm swing from Sam Curran, right-arm pace from Saqib Mahmood, variations galore from Tom Curran and leg-spin from Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane.
Tom Moody, another Australian, will coach the Oval Invincibles, bringing years of experience from coaching in the IPL and the BBL to the team.
Sam Curran, Rory Burns, Tom Curran, Reece Topley, Alex Blake, Sunil Narine, Jason Roy, Nathan Sowter, Sam Billings, Laurie Evans, Will Jacks, Sandeep Lamichhane, Saqib Mahmood, Colin INgram, Brandon Glover, Jordan Clark
Oval Invincibles are 6.50 favourites with 1xbet and 7.00 with Betway.
Captain: Jofra Archer
Overseas Players: David Warner, Marcus Stoinis, Andre Russell
Other Key Players: Jofra Archer, James Vince, George Garton
Coach: Mahela Jayawardene
Ground: The Rose Bowl
Southern Brave are yet to name their captain but you would think it is a straight choice between Hampshire skipper James Vince and pantomime villain David Warner. Both will probably open the batting for the side and are sure to be near the top of the run charts come the end of the season.
Marcus Stoinis and Andre Russell are two big name international stars with plenty of franchise cricket experience under their belts. They will both pick up this new format quickly and offer quality with the bat and ball.
Southern Brave’s bowling stocks are particularly impressive. England internationals Jofra Archer, Liam Dawson, Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills, Craig Overton and Danny Briggs will be backed up by England hopeful left-arm George Garton.
Former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene is very well respected by players across the globe and will have no problems in this position. He has led Mumbai Indians to IPL success in 2017, 2019 and 2020.
Jofra Archer, Liam Dawson, George Garton, Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills, Delray Rawlins, James Vince, Alex Davies, Max Waller, Craig Overton, Andre Russell, Marcus Stoinis, Ross Whiteley, David Warner, Danny Briggs
Southern Brave can be backed at 5.50 to win The Hundred with 1xbet and at 8.00 with Betway.
Captain: Lewis Gregory
Overseas Players: Rashid Khan, Nathan Coulter-Nile, D’Arcy Short
Other Key Players: Joe Root, Alex Hales, Dawid Malan
Coach: Andy Flower
Ground: Trent Bridge
Trent Rockets have named Lewis Gregory as the captain of their team who leads Somerset in England domestic circuit.
With the bat they have the power of Alex Hales alongside the world’s number one ranked T20I batsman in Dawid Malan. Throw in England’s second highest run scorer across all formats and you have a decent front three.
Bowling wise they have plenty of pace-off options, a strategy which often reaps rewards in the shortest formats. Rashid Khan is widely acknowledged as the best T20 bowler and he will be well supported by England white ball veterans Luke Wright and Samit Patel.
Coach Andy Flower took England from the depths of being bowled out for 51 to the top of the world rankings in just over two years and he will be looking to come to terms with the new format in the quickest time possible.
Joe Root, Rashid Khan, Alex Hales, Matt Carter, Dawid Malan, Tom Moores, Steven Mullaney, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Ben Cox, Lewis Gregory, D’Arcy Short, Luke Wood, Luke Wright, Samit Patel, Timm van der Gutgen
Trent Rockets are 7.00 to win The Hundred with Betway and at 6.00 with 1xbet.
Captain: Ollie Pope
Overseas Players: Qais Ahmed, Kieron Pollard, Jhye Richardson
Other Key Players: Ollie Pope, Jonny Bairstow, Tom Banton
Coach: Gary Kirsten
Ground: Sophia Gardens
Welsh Fire have top heavily packed their squad with English batsmen, the pressure will be on Ollie Pope, Jonny Bairstow and Tom Banton to go big each time they come to the wicket. They will be backed up by Matt Critchley, Ben Duckett and Kieron Pollard who will explode onto the scene at some point in the competition.
Pollard is joined by Australian all-rounder Jhye Richardson and Afghan Qais Ahmed who at only 20 years of age has already clocked up many miles on the franchise circuit.
With the ball, England ODI World Cup winner Liam Plunkett is joined by Jake Ball. The overseas trio will be expected to chip in in this department also.
Gary Kirsten is an extremely experienced coach after spells with India, South Africa, Hobart Hurricanes and Royal Challengers Bangalore. No stranger to England, he was the favourite to take over from Trevor Bayliss before the ECB opted for Chris Silverwood.
Ollie Pope, Jonny Bairstow, Tom Banton, Ben Duckett, Qais Ahmad, Ryan Higgins, David Payne, Liam Plunkett, Kieron Pollard, Jhye Richardson, Jake Ball, Iain Cockbain, Josh Cobb, Matt Critchley, David Lloyd
Welsh Fire are at 9.00 and 7.50 to win The Hundred with Betway and 1xbet respectively.
Aaron Finch and Ben Stokes are two of the best players in the world at the moment and will have no problem with The Hundred format. Indeed, for Stokes, Northern Superchargers playing their home cricket at Headingley will bring the best out of him as it is the scene of his incredible fourth innings performance against Australia in the 2019 Ashes.
When you throw in the short-format bowling abilities of Adil Rashid, David Willey and Mujeeb ur Rahman alongside the express pace of Olly Stone, you can see why this squad are so well fancied.
Darren Lehman will coach the side with a hands-off and relaxed approach which we think will reap rewards.
